A Trip Though The Ultimate X-Men

Alright, let's get something right out in the open….I currently don't buy comics. Don't get me wrong, I like comic books. I like most of the current crop of comic book related movies. I also still read comics when I mooch them off of the other guys around here. I used to buy comics, and I can even see boxes of them from where I'm sitting. I just don't currently buy any.

Why? The answer is simple, I once worked in a comic book shop. Yup, I was that guy. The guy that hung out and read every single comic in the store, all while entertaining people with my vast knowledge of all things comics. The guy that screwed up your weekly comics pull. The guy that listened to endless conversations on who could kill who, and why. At the end of it all, it was too much, and after I moved on to a different job, comics just slowly kind of faded away.

Oh, and in case any of you ever met me in the shop, yes, I was in fact silently plotting your violent death while you stood there and complained to me why some character you love was doing something you didn't like. As if I was some local priest of the comic gods and could pass along your concerns to the powers that be so you could be heard.

But I digress.

Recently, I did end up buying some comics, of a sort. Wandering through Best Buy I came upon The Ultimate X-Men Complete Comic Book Collection, #1-70. I still keep up on what's generally going on in comics, mostly because of friends that are still in "the life", so I knew about the Ultimate Universe, and had even mooched some Avengers, and X-Men from time to time. The CD was only $15, for 70 issues, and seeing as how I was with said "the life" friends, I ended up getting peer pressured into buying it.

Now that we've started this blog, I figured it was a good excuse to dust it off, and actually start reading them. The 70 issues will probably just be a trip down memory lane for most of you, but it will be almost 100% new for me. Other than an issue about Colossus dragging a sub, but I'm sure I'll get to that sooner or later.

For however long it takes me, I'm going to read through the 70 Ultimate X-Men issues, and give you my thoughts as I read them for your amusement. I'll hopefully get through three a week for sure, but I make no promises.
